How do the ingredients in HFB support gut health?
The ingredients in Human Food Bar are carefully selected to enhance the natural diversity of microorganisms in your gut, which is essential for optimal health.
Our bars include a complete spectrum of naturally occurring FODMAPs—fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. These components are important short-chain carbohydrates and naturally derived sweet fibers that serve as vital nutrients for your 'gut buddies.' By nourishing these beneficial bacteria, FODMAPs promote a diverse and healthy microbiome, leading to improved gut health and enhanced digestion.
While this approach benefits most people by supporting a rich microbial ecosystem and promoting digestive wellness, those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) may lack the bacteria needed to properly digest them. This can make them sensitive to these otherwise highly beneficial compounds.
Individuals with IBS might notice gas as the body adjusts. If you have it, we recommend starting with a smaller portion to assess your body's response and gradually increasing it as tolerated.
What is allulose and why is it healthy?
Our bars have even been endorsed by doctors and dieticians who recommend allulose as the best sugar substitute. Its ability to support blood sugar balance, provide prebiotic benefits, and deliver a delicious, natural sweetness makes it a standout ingredient and the perfect choice for health-conscious consumers.
Allulose is a naturally occurring “rare sugar” found in small amounts in fruits like figs and strawberries. The allulose in our bars is made from non-GMO corn (not corn syrup) and is molecularly identical to the allulose found in these fruits. It offers the same health benefits, regardless of its source.
As a prebiotic, allulose is absorbed in the small intestine but not metabolized for energy, so it does not cause blood sugar spikes. In fact, it has been shown to have a blood sugar-balancing effect, making it an excellent choice for those managing their metabolic health.
It also tastes great, with a clean, natural sweetness that’s far superior to sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners, which often leave a bitter aftertaste or cause digestive discomfort.
There is some misinformation suggesting that allulose is banned in Europe and Canada. This is not true. Allulose is not banned—it simply has not yet been approved for use in those regions.
Regulatory bodies in Europe and Canada move more slowly than the U.S. when approving new ingredients, often requiring extensive evaluation. In the U.S., allulose is classified as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA and is widely available.
What can I expect when I add HFB to my diet?
Incorporating Human Food Bars into your diet offers numerous health and digestive benefits.
Each bar is not only rich in fiber but also high in complete protein and contains a substantial amount of healthy fats. These nutrients enhance satiety, help stabilize blood sugar levels, provide sustained energy throughout the day, and can help make your digestion more regular.
Furthermore, our bars include a full spectrum of naturally occurring FODMAPs—fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. These compounds nourish beneficial gut bacteria, enhancing microbial diversity and improving overall gut function.
If you experience sluggish digestion, the high fiber content in our bars can promote regular bowel movements, improving digestive health. Be sure to drink plenty of water.
If you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and are sensitive to FODMAPs, you might experience temporary digestive symptoms such as gas or bloating during the adjustment period as your body adapts to these components.
If you have, or think you might have IBS, it’s advisable to start with a smaller portion to help your body gradually adjust, enabling you to enjoy the full benefits of our bars with minimal discomfort.
Are the bars good as a meal replacement?
We have a lot of customers who use HFB for meal replacements. With 10g of protein, 13g of fiber, and 240 calories, they will keep most people energized and full for several hours.
Can I buy HFB in stores?
Sorry, no. These bars are quite expensive to make and selling them directly to you is the best way to keep prices down. Distributors and grocery stores take a big cut, typically more than 50%.
How does HFB have just 4-6g of carbs?
Yes, it's true! HFB contains only 4-6g of net carbs (depending on flavor) because our formula uses natural prebiotic fiber that doesn't "digest." These carbs make it all the way to your gut, to feed the good bacteria residing there, and they also make the bar taste great. The best part? It doesn't hit your daily carbohydrate load or uptick your blood sugar. Woohoo!
How is it lectin-free if there are almonds?
The almonds are blanched, which removes all lectins and gives the bar a more refined flavor. Turns out almonds don't look that great when blanched, so we left the skin on for the photo shoot. Sorry for the confusion.
What are natural flavors?
Natural flavors are derived from plant extracts, like essential oils, and serve to amplify the existing tastes in foods. A common example is vanilla.
These flavors are deemed Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the FDA. However, misconceptions arise due to concerns that some may not be as 'natural' as expected, could prompt allergic reactions in rare cases, or might involve chemical solvents.
Why, then, does Human Food Bar incorporate them?
Because the ones we use are perfectly safe and for 9/10 consumers, taste is king.
We are discerning our selection process and meticulously avoid contentious substances such as MSG, Diacetyl, Citral, Methyl N-Acetyl Anthranilate, and Castoreum.
Moreover, our natural flavors are free from solvents, preservatives, and other chemical additives, ensuring only the purest experience.
You might wonder about the specific flavors we use.
In the competitive landscape of nutrition bars, the exact natural flavors are closely guarded secrets, a practice not unique to us but common across the industry.
Our commitment, however, is to transparency where it counts: in the quality, safety, and integrity of our ingredients. Rest assured, every flavor enhancing your Human Food Bar has been chosen with your health and palate in mind.

Why is gut biome health so important?
The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in regulating various systems in the body, including the digestive system. It acts as a control panel, sending instructions to the digestive system to optimize the breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. This process supports the use of nutrients for energy and cell growth and repair.
An imbalanced gut microbiome can lead to a range of digestive issues such as heartburn, bloating, gas, leaky gut, and diarrhea. It can also set the stage for problems with sleep, energy, focus and even mood.
Restoring balance to the gut microbiome can not only improve digestion, but also positively impact other aspects of health, including blood sugar regulation, heart health, and mental well-being.
